International Human Rights Day Message

International Human Rights Day Message

On International Human Rights Day, it is important to recognise the critical connection between democracy, human rights and the rule of law- three pillars that, when combined, have the power to improve the lives of all.

This recognition is even more profound for Seychellois as we have enshrined these principles in our Constitution, which provides a comprehensive range of justiciable rights, including civil, political, economic, social, cultural, group, and environmental rights.

But it is critical to remember that, as Seychellois, we are not only the beneficiaries of this incredible system, but we also bear the solemn duty to uphold and defend it. Thus, to truly unlock the power of our Constitution, we must prioritise the constitutional education of our people—empowering them to understand, uphold and defend their Constitution.

As the Ombudsman of Seychelles, I will be advocating, through my activities, for more constitutional education, as an informed public is the most powerful driver of justice and human dignity.

I will also be diligently applying my knowledge and understanding of the Constitution to safeguard the human rights of the people of Seychelles. Through the functions and investigative powers of the Office of Ombudsman, I aim to illustrate the profound potential of our Constitution through the critical work of this essential constitutional Office.

By embracing knowledge and fostering respect for our Constitution, we empower ourselves to uphold the fundamental rights of every individual and ignite the potential of our country, paving the way for the pursuit of happiness for all.
